1913 Craftsman House

Situated on a lovely Riverside street hugging the Mianus River, this house sat idle on the market for two years. Many potential buyers simply wanted to tear it down. But the 1913 Craftsman style and structure of this stucco house merited preservation — and that required extensive renovation of its design and materials. In the original plan, five sets of stairs led to two separate wings awkwardly connected by a large living room with a 25-foot ceiling. Lowering the living room ceiling made room for a cohesive second story and two much-needed new bedrooms. Now the 6,000 square-foot house contains one main staircase, a proper seating terrace, a clear entrance and a sunroom. Our client particularly appreciates the many details of the Craftsman style that we were able to preserve, including English oak-figured paneling and original light and bathroom fixtures.
