Quogue Modern

This new, year-round residence for an active family in Quogue is, at the same time, transparent and private. The inviting entry facade, outfitted with a wall of cedar slats, reveals little of the expansive, open-plan interior that connects to the back garden and pool through 10-foot-high walls of glass. There is also a play of forms and relationships here. Several cedar-shingle pavilions with gabled roofs are visually annexed to the house, including a guest cottage, art studio and pool house. Slatted barn doors, echoing the front entry, are used as shutters for the sliding doors on the pavilions and second-floor terraced bedrooms. They also provide seasonally changing patterns of light throughout the airy 6,350-square-foot interior.
