With direct waterfront and views of New York’s skyline, this stunning property overlooking Stamford Harbor met our client’s desire for water views even though it had never been properly updated and did not meet flood regulations. Our first task was to raise this early 20th century Shore Colonial five feet, a measure that proved providential as Hurricane Sandy soon devastated many surrounding properties.
Since the historic character of the 4,588 square foot house had been largely stripped away in earlier remodels, we added appropriate architectural details such as paneled walls, pilasters, moldings, built-ins and coffered ceilings. All interior spaces were reconfigured for comfortable family gatherings, spaces for active teens, and above all vistas to the water. French doors usher in sea breezes in each of the first floor public spaces and all the second floor bedrooms have access to the upper sitting porch. New casement windows throughout augment the house’s architectural integrity while providing light and views. The one remaining original architectural element of the house – a grand detailed stair – now opens to Long Island Sound views.
