Shingle Style Set on Granite Ledge

What was initially seen as a deterrent to the property – its large rock outcropping – grew to be an asset as this project evolved.  The ledge affords precious views to Long Island Sound on one side and overlooks private woodlands and a pond on the other.

A stone base foundation of native New York granite, the same color and composition as the granite ledge, marries this 6,625 square foot shingle style house to its rocky site.  A detailed entrance porch, stone porte cochere and two-car garage form a welcoming courtyard.  The L-shaped plan addresses the programming needs of this family with teens, all who enjoy entertaining a large extended family.

The first floor plan easily flows from living to dining rooms and den, kitchen, family room and terrace with sets of French doors that can be open for a crowd or closed for daily use.  A classic butler’s pantry holds the owner’s collection of antique china, linens, a linen press and cabinets to hang table clothes.  The gracious double-height foyer stair easily divides the master bedroom suite and the children’s bedrooms, craft/media room and guest rooms, creating ample spaces for family and friends near and far.
